AppNote 02 Activated Carbon Decolorization using Prepacked Disposable Cartridges

The removal of colored impurities (De-colorization) from natural products, organic and inorganic compounds at bench scale and industrial scale is commonly accomplished via batch charcoal absorption techniques. The de-colorization procedure can be more efficient, faster and easier using a pre-packed charcoal cartridge.

AppNote 12 Decolorization of Products with FLASH-AC™ (Activated Carbon Cartridges)

This paper demonstrates the variables to optimize a successful cartridge decolorization step using a synthetic mixture of phenol and methyl red. This paper also compares the decolorization results from a batch process and prepacked cartridge process.

AppNote 20 Removing Colored Impurities from 9-Fluorenylmethanol with FLASH-AC™

The variables to remove color using the FLASH-AC cartridges are discussed in the application note #12 titled Decolorization of Products with FLASH-AC. In this work these principles are applied decolorizing an organic synthesis intermediate. Removing the degradation products from an intermediate product is desirable to minimize the impurities formed in subsequent synthetic steps.

AppNote 22 Purifying Labile Reagents with FLASH-AC™ Cartridges

Purifying the reagents before synthesis significantly improves the color and purity of the final product. In practical applications the purification of a degraded reagent before synthesis will reduce or eliminate purification of the final product. Purification before the synthesis step prevents process losses of the final product. This process is ideal for degradable reagents since purification can be performed immediately before the synthesis.

AppNote 31 Removing Tannins from Plant Biomass Solutions with FLASH-AC™ Carbon Cartridges

The value of many harvested, plant-based compounds is negatively affected by the presence of highly colored tannins. Tannins are a series of polyphenol components that are traditionally removed by adsorption onto activated carbon, but this process using loose carbon media is awkward, especially in a cGMP environment.

AppNote 32 Comparing Granular and Powdered Activated Carbon Columns to FLASH-AC™ Cartridges

Adsorbent media efficiency is most effective when packed into cartridges. The particle size of the packed media affects cartridge performance. Packed cartridges containing granular carbon, powdered carbon, and conditioned carbon were evaluated for performance when packed into identical cartridges.
